I think it is in the nature of every artist to suffer from some sort of insecurity. Name me another profession where you sit by yourself and create these personal pieces of self-expression then upon their completion you put them out into the world to be judged? Throw in the fact that I happen to have befriended and work alongside some of the most talented and distinguished artists you would ever have the pleasure of meeting. Then sprinkle it with sharing a life with the most creative woman on the planet…
You can start to see why I hardly ever feel completely secure in the work that I make. It can always be better. Lately though I have tried to make a conscious decision to embrace my emotional vulnerabilities. Think about it, if the work you made as an artist came out exactly how you imagined or wanted it to where would be the surprise, where would be the WOW? Confidence is boring, create from your emotional center wherever that may be. For me it’s being a pigeon in a world of peacocks.
New motto: Proud as a Pigeon!
